University of Toronto Varsity Stadium

Project Completed: 2007

Built on a historic site of athletic activity for the University, Centaur was instrumental in constructing the most recent incarnation of Varsity Stadium in 2007. The facility boasts a world-class artificial turf playing surface which received FIFA Recommended 2-Star Status following installation, a 400-meter IAAF certified running track, spectator seating upgrades and a state-of-the-art video and scoring system all supplied and installed by Centaur. The artificial turf and track both come from manufacturer Polytan. The artificial turf consists of Polytan’s LigaTurf 240 ACS 65 with Poly-Shock Pad underlayment and the track consists of a Polytan M System. The stadium has a Daktronics LED video display with the capabilities to show live and recorded video, colorful animation and vivid graphics. The large video display measures approximately 4.5 meters (15 feet) high by 9 meters (30 feet) wide and is capable of creating a in-game experience comparable to that of a large professional stadium venue. The video and scoring system also features a Galaxy® LED display measuring approximately 0.5 meters (1 foot 6 inches) high by 14.3 meters (47 feet) wide for added visual effect. The installation has created a world-class home for the University’s Varsity Blues football, soccer and field hockey squads.
