Saville Community Sports Centre

Project Completed: 2011

The Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, AB, is a partnership among four established community sports organizations in the city: the Edmonton Grads Basketball Centre, Ortona Gymnastics Club, Edmonton Volleyball Centre Society and the University of Alberta. In addition to volleyball, basketball and gymnastics, the massive 220,000 sq. ft. recreation centre will play host to sports like badminton, futsal, dance and martial arts in the gymnasium space that has been created. Centaur was instrumental in the construction of the facility by supplying and installing the 130,000 sq.ft. of Robbins hardwood sports flooring consisting 9 NBA-sized basketball courts, 9 full-size volleyball courts, a 22,000 sq. ft. gymnastics centre and multiple meeting and party rooms. The facility is now one of the largest hardwood floor facilities in all of North America. In addition to the hardwood surfacing, Centaur supplied and installed 36 ceiling-folding basketball backstops, 9 divider curtains and provided a full Daktronics scoreboard package complete with shot clocks, time of day clocks and scorer’s tables. A 2,500 seat telescopic seating system was also installed by Centaur as part of the Saville Centre’s Competition Gym. This Centre will be the home of the University of Golden Bears and Pandas volleyball and basketball teams as well as the Team Ortona competitive Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline and Tumbling teams.
